Dansk forskning viser, at fibre i sukkerroer stimulerer tarmens mælkesyrebakterier, som kan hæmme betændelsestilstande i tarmen.

Hvert år rammes omtrent 500 danskere af sygdommen blødende tyktarmsbetændelse, som også kaldes Colitis ulcerosa. Sygdommen kan endnu ikke helbredes, men et nyt dansk forskningsprojekt giver håb, da det viser en gavnlig effekt af roefibre.

 

Syge mangler mælkesyrebakterier 

Det er Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, DTU, i samarbejde med Herlev Hospital, som har vist, at patienter med blødende tyktarmsbetændelse har en anderledes bakteriesammensætning i tarmen, end raske har. Disse patienter har langt færre af de gavnlige mælkesyrebakterier sammenlignet med raske personer, og mælkesyrebakterierne hos patienterne har samtidig en nedsat evne til at udvikle sig og vokse i tarmens slimlag.

 

Fibre øger de gavnlige bakterier 

Forskningsprojektet viser, at specielt væksten af de gavnlige mælkesyrebakterier stiger, når der er ufordøjelige fibre fra blandt andet sukkerroer til stede. Det kan tyde på, at patienter med blødende tyktarmsbetændelse kan have fordel af at spise et produkt med sådanne fibre for at styrke immunforsvaret.

 

In vitro-undersøgelser 

Foreløbig er der kun lavet såkaldte ”in vitro-undersøgelser”, det vil sige vækstforsøg i laboratoriet. Undersøgelser på mennesker vil måske først ske om tre til fem år eller senere. Forskerne håber med dette projekt, at man i fremtiden vil kunne mindske sygdomsudbruddets længde og voldsomhed eller forlænge sygdommens inaktive stadie ved hjælp af kostændringer, der fremmer væksten af gavnlige mælkesyrebakterier i tarmen.
