Beskrivelse
Aromatisk træ op til 3 m højt, 30 cm lange pigbesatte blade og grøngule blomster. Oprindelig fra Nordamerika. Vokser i fugtig, næringsrig skovbund.
Aktive indholdsstoffer
Alkaloider (bl.a. chelerythrin, nitidin, temberatin), herclavin, asarinin, neoherculin, garvestoffer, harpiks, skarp æterisk olie.(1)
Egenskaber
Kredsløbsstimulerende, sveddrivende(1), antireumatisk, carminativ, spytdrivende.(2)
Indikationer
Reumatisme, Raynards sygdom, kramper i benene, claudicatio intermittens (arteriosklerose i benenes pulsårer), nervesmerter, åreknuder, frostknuder.(1-3)
Kontraindikationer
Bør ikke anvendes i svangerskab.(2) Overdosering kan irritere slimhinderne, bør ikke anvendes ved akut mavekatar.
Bivirkninger
Zanthoxylum clava-herculis har muligvis en antikoagulerende indvirkning.
Toksicitet
Ingen giftvirkninger ved anbefalet dosering.
Dosering
Tørret droge: 1‑2 g tre gange daglig.(1) Ekstrakt (1:2) i 45% alkohol: 10-30 ml ugentlig.(4) Tinktur (1:5) i 45% alkohol: 40-100 ml ugentlig.(1)
Kombinationsforslag
Zanthoxylum clava-herculis kan blandes med Zingiber officinalis, Ginkgo biloba, Centella asiatica og Ruscus aculeatus i behandlingen af kredsløbssygdomme.
