Kviksølv – en nervegift, som kan give alvorlige hjerne- og udviklingsforstyrrelser. Det er ikke mindst fostre yderst sårbare overfor. Bliv klogere på, hvor vi udsættes for kviksølv, og hvad du kan gøre for at undgå verdens måske farligste tungmetal.

Så giftigt er kviksølv

Nyere forskning viser, at kviksølv er så farlig en nervegift, at man i praksis ikke kan sætte en laveste grænseværdi. Det er særligt formen methylkviksølv, som kan gøre uoprettelige skader på centralnervesystemet hos især fostre og mindre børn. Det kan bl.a. vise sig som hjerneskader, problemer med syn og hørelse samt nedsat intelligens. Methylkviksølv er den form, der bl.a. findes i havets fødekæder. Man anslår, at forurening har tidoblet kviksølvindholdet i verdenshavene.

I fostertilstanden er hjernen allermest sårbar over for eksponering for methylkviksølv. Vi udsættes ikke kun for kviksølv via fisk som tun og andre rovfisk. Der er også fx amalgamfyldninger i tænderne. Andre steder i verden eksponeres mennesker for kviksølv via plejeprodukter, forurening fra minedrift og dampe fra afbrænding af kul.

Kviksølv i fisk
Der er ikke særlig meget kviksølv i fede fisk og fiskeolie. Derimod kan “gamle” fisk og fisk højt oppe i fødekæden indeholde methylkviksølv, da de ikke kan udskille det. Tun og nogle få andre rovfisk har en grænseværdi for kviksølv, som er dobbelt så høj som for andre fisk. Forbrugerrådet Tænk Kemi testede for et par år siden dåsetun og fandt målbare mængder af kviksølv i alle prøverne. Ifølge en anden undersøgelse overskrider hver 10. dåse tun og hver 5. tunbøf og sushitun grænseværdien for kviksølv – som vel at mærke burde være et rundt nul. Derfor bør gravide, ammende og små børn helt undgå tunfisk.

Kviksølv i tandfyldninger
Det er uklart, om tandfyldninger med amalgam (kviksølv) kan skade kroppen, men af forsigtighedshensyn kan du overveje at få dem fjernet. Du frarådes dog på det kraftigste at få dem fjernet eller udskiftet, mens du er gravid eller ammer. Amalgameksponeringen, som din baby får indenbords ved en fjernelse, er markant højere, end hvis du lader kviksølvet sidde på sin plads under graviditet og amning. Hvis der ovenikøbet skulle gå noget galt under indgrebet (det kan ikke altid påvises), så er det helt slemt. Det er absolut ikke risikoen værd.

Mange tandlæger ved ikke ret meget om kviksølvs kinetik i kroppen, dvs. hvordan det fordeles, optages og udskilles. De ved oftest heller ikke noget om, hvad det gør ved små børn. Derfor har de ofte ikke respekt nok for feltets potentielle farlighed. Når du ikke ammer mere (og ikke er gravid), bør du nøje vælge en tandlæge, der tager de anbefalede forholdsregler i forhold til sikker amalgamfjernelse.

Disse kriterier skal opfyldes ved fjernelse af amalgamfyldninger:

  • Punktsug på tand
  • Iltmaske til næsen
  • Kultabletter lige før behandling og efterfølgende samme dag.


Var du eksponeret som gravid?
Det er desværre rigtig skidt at blive eksponeret for kviksølv under en graviditet. Den væsentligste eksponering for fostret er i graviditeten, ikke under amning. Faktisk kan amning via udvikling af babys tarmflora hjælpe med at fjerne netop kviksølv. Babyer eller ammende bør ikke detoxe, da det kan gøre ondt værre, fordi det flytter rundt på miljøgifte i kroppen. Derved udsættes hjerne og organer, når kroppen arbejder med at udskille stofferne. Derfor er det bedste at vente, til dit barns hjerne er næsten færdigudviklet i 3-4-årsalderen, hvorefter en behandler kan hjælpe med udrensning med fx chlorella, der i den videnskabelige litteratur har vist sig effektiv til det. Når du er færdig med at amme, så tag en chlorella- kapsel/-pille dagligt i nogle måneder, hvis du har været moderat kviksølveksponeret.
