Den gode gamle kanel, den velkendte oregano og ikke mindst nogle frø fra marietidslen. Tre stærke droger, der er blevet toptunet af moderne teknologi. Det giver stabile droger, hvor man kan være sikker på en god virkning til de helt specifikke problemstillinger, de hver især er kendt for.
Gaia Herbs, en fabrik med økologi i højsædet, er også interessant, fordi vi som forbrugere nøjagtig kan få at vide, hvor drogen har groet, og hvordan den er fremstillet. Det skaber tillid og ja, så bliver det altså meget lettere at føle, at man er på rette vej.
Alkoholekstraktion og CO2-ekstraktioner
De fleste planter indeholder aktive stoffer, som er delt op i henholdsvis fedtopløselige- og vandopløselige stoffer. Nogle aktive stoffer er meget flygtige og skal helst igennem en produktion, hvor de forarbejdes i et helt lukket system. Det gælder fx de æteriske olier. Her bruges der ofte vanddamp under højt tryk. Andre fedtopløselige stoffer skal gennem en alkoholekstraktion, hvor alkoholen gør de aktive stoffer tilgængelige, så vi bedre kan optage dem. Siden først i 90’erne har man også kunnet lave en såkaldt CO2-ekstraktion, som skaber en unik mulighed for at finjustere teknologien for at fange endnu flere af de aktive stoffer ind, så de kan optimere vores sundhed.
Hvordan virker CO2-ekstraktion?
Der er flere gode grunde til, at industrien har udviklet nye ekstraktionsmetoder. De søger selvfølgelig efter effektive metoder, også af økonomiske grunde, så man skal anvende færrest mulige planter for at få flest mulige aktive stoffer i det færdige produkt, men det handler også om renhed. Ved at anvende en blanding af vand-og/eller alkoholekstraktion og CO2-ekstraktioner – lidt afhængigt af hvad man er på jagt efter – får man et højere indhold af de potente stoffer uden brug af kemikalier.
Ved en CO2-ekstraktion anvendes flere separatorer. Den første separator anvender det højest mulige tryk for at udvinde stofferne fra fx harpiks og tunge olier. Ved anden separation udvindes de stoffer, som har en lettere molekylevægt end i den første separation og så fremdeles, indtil alle aktive stoffer er udvundet under de forskellige tryk. Det hele foregår temperaturkontrolleret og i et lukket kredsløb, hvor computere holder øje med hele produktionen.
