En støtte til ordblindes færdigheder

Eye-q har ændret navn til Equazen 

 

Det er ikke en sygdom, og man er bestemt ikke mindre intelligent end andre. Sprogforskere, lærere og neurologer arbejder sammen om at finde nogle af årsagerne, så man måske kan gøre en forskel for børn og voksne. Vi har kigget på en ret så enkel støtteterapi.

At omsætte, hvad der sker lige foran øjnene, kan faktisk være svært. Og især har ordblinde svært ved at omsætte de mange bogstaver og ord til nogle sammenhænge, der giver mening, både når de skal læses eller gengives mundtligt. Faktisk kan det handle om, at mange har problemer med at se bogstaver og ord klart og derfor har svært ved at omsætte det, de ser, så det bliver forståeligt for dem selv og andre. Det handler slet ikke om intelligens, men forskellige komplicerede områder i hjernen, der skal arbejde sammen, og heldigvis bor vi i et af verdens rigeste lande med et skolesystem som anno 2021 har en lang stribe arbejdsmetoder til at få hjernen til at samarbejde med øjnene. Men en mulig støtteterapi kan også findes inden for gode kostvaner.

En af årsagerne til, at det kan være svært for ordblinde at få tekster gjort brugbare, kan være de såkaldte magno-cellulære nerveceller, som hjælper til at identificere bogstaver og sætte dem i en kontekst, så de danner ord, der giver mening.

I nogle studier har man set, hvordan en svækkelse af de magno-cellulære celler, fx pga. nedarvede forhold, kan være en af årsagerne. Man kan også se, at evnen til at optage omega-3-fedtsyrer for at udvikle nerveceller, kan være nedsat, og det går ud over cellemembranerne, hvorfra signalmolekyler i nervecellerne skal optages. For få omega-3-fedtsyrer kan med andre ord få membranerne på de magno-cellulære celler til at reagere for langsomt på de påvirkninger de fx fra synet modtager gennem en lang kædereaktion.

Sammen med de magno-cellulære celler findes også de parvocellulære celler, og i 2011 lavede man et studie, hvor man ville se, om eye-q kunne gøre en forskel.

Nervecellernes arbejde er superindviklet og meget mere kompliceret end beskrevet her, men det giver mening at kende ”magno” og ”parvo”, når man vil forstå, hvorfor fedtsyrer i det rette forhold er vigtige.

På vej ind til disse celler sker der en række forandringer i nervesystemet, der, ligesom magno-cellulære celler er en vigtig detalje, når vi skal kunne sortere i de informationer, vi får fra hvert øje. Til forskel fra de store celler (deraf navnet magno) er de parvocellulære neuroner, som nerveceller hedder, mere følsomme over for farve og er bedre i stand til at skelne fine detaljer.

Det er især de magno-cellulære celler, der har med hastigheden at gøre, hvormed vi opfanger en tekst, men begge typer celler sammen med en stribe af andre nerveceller er nødvendige for at omsætte tekst til noget forståeligt for hjernen.

Et forsøg med fedtsyrer

I forsøget indgik 22 personer på 19-34 år, der gik gennem en forsøgsperiode, hvor de forinden ikke måtte spise omega-3-fedtsyrer fra kapsler i en måned, men blot skulle fortsætte med at spise, som de plejede.

Ud over at måle, om omega-3-fedtsyrer havde en effekt var man interesseret i at se, om eye-q med sit højere indhold af EPA:DHA i forholdet (tre dele EPA til en del DHA) ville virke anderledes bedre end en mere almindelig omega-3-fedtsyre, som indeholder fire dele DHA til en del EPA.

Begge grupper fik samme dosis (seks kapsler), og forsøget var et såkaldt cross-over med en periode, hvor de ikke fik hverken det ene eller det andet fedtsyreprodukt.

I en måned fik den ene gruppe eye-q, og den anden gruppe fik ”almindelig” omega 3, hvorefter ingen af dem fik nogen kapsler i en måned. Så byttede man gruppe, så man fik det modsatte produkt i en måned, altså et forsøg over tre måneder. Det er selvsagt, at ingen af dem vidste, hvilken type kapsel de fik.

Periode 1
Ingen spiser fedtsyrer i form af tilskud.

Periode 2
Gruppe 1 spiser EPA:DHA (eye-q) og gruppe 2 DHA:EPA (omega-3-fedtsyrer) i en måned.

Periode 3
Ingen spiser fedtsyrer som tilskud, så der ikke sker et overlap mellem de to produkter, hvorved man kan sikre sig mere korrekte resultater i de forskellige neurologiske tests.

Periode 4
Nu bytter forsøgsdeltagerne, så gruppe 1 spiser DHA:EPA (omega-3-fedtsyrer), og gruppe 2 spiser EPA:DHA (eye-q).

(Den anvendte omega-3-fedtsyre sælges ikke i Danmark, den er kendt af redaktionen og hører til blandt de bedste af sin slags. Så målingen er ikke lavet op mod ”hvad som helst).

Ved hjælp af en stribe neurologiske tests så man, at eye-q havde en signifikant bedre evne til at få hjernen til at opfange ord hurtigere end på de andre omega-3-fedtsyrer. Men begge grupper opnåede en god effekt.

En samlet konklusion

Man kunne se, at eye-q styrkede de magnocellulære celler i at kunne reagere på stimulation via synsnerverne.

Der opstod også en hurtigere reaktion og eye-q styrkede i det hele taget funktionerne i den del af hjernen, som opfatter synsindtryk og kan dermed være en god støtte for mennesker med ordblindhed.

Studiet bekræfter i øvrigt flere studier på eye-q, bl.a. fra Sverige, Australien og England, hvor man har kunnet se, hvordan eye-q har kunnet gøre en forskel både i evnen til at koncentrere sig, bevare overblikket og at kunne læse og skrive.
Det kan være en fordel at kombinere med Keen-Mind og så selvfølgelig masser af fed fisk, nødder og gode frø og kerner, som også bidrager til at holde hjernen så sund som muligt.

Dosering: Seks kapsler dagligt i tre måneder og derefter tre kapsler.

Ordblindhed kort fortalt

Dysleksi (ordblindhed) er store vanskeligheder med at lære at læse og skrive, som kommer af langsom og upræcis omsætning af bogstaver og bogstavfølger til sproglyde. Personer med dysleksi har særligt svært ved at læse ord, som de ikke har set skrevet før. Læse- og stavefejlene er ofte i modstrid med almindelige forbindelser mellem bogstav og lyd, fx kulde læst som kunne og dig skrevet som din.

Når man har dysleksi, har man svært ved at lære at læse. Det er ikke nogen sygdom; og dysleksi er ikke defineret ved nogen enkelt psykologisk eller fysiologisk årsag. Langt de fleste tilfælde af dysleksi skyldes vanskeligheder med at få fat i de enkelte sproglyde (fonemer) i talt sprog. Det er disse enkeltlyde, der er grundlaget for skriften (bogstaverne). Dysleksien kommer af vanskeligheder med at opdele sammenhængende tale i enkeltlyde – og med at få enkeltlyde til at smelte sammen til stavelser og ord. Dysleksi forekommer da også hyppigt sammen med en forsinket udvikling af sproget.

Der er fundet mange sammenhænge mellem dysleksi og hjernens opbygning og funktion.

Dysleksi forekommer hyppigere i nogle familier end i andre. Man ved, at arvelige faktorer har stor betydning. Dysleksi skyldes hverken dårlig begavelse, synsvanskeligheder eller problemer med at kende forskel på venstre og højre.

Hvor udbredt/hyppige er disse læse- og staveproblemer?

Forekomsten af dysleksi er ca. otte pct. i skolealderen og blandt unge under uddannelse, men tallet er selvfølgelig usikkert i de første klasser. Der er mange gange flere med dysleksi i erhvervsuddannelserne end i mellemlange og lange videregående uddannelser. I 1990 beskrev syv pct. af de voksne 19-65-årige (ca. 250.000) sig selv som ordblinde. Dette tal har nok ikke ændret sig meget siden.

Dysleksi er næsten dobbelt så hyppigt blandt drenge som blandt piger (ca. 17 drenge pr. 10 piger). Dysleksi er den mest almindelige årsag til store læse-stavevanskeligheder, hvilket er den hyppigste indlæringsvanskelighed i skolealderen.

Andre vanskeligheder med at lære at læse og stave

Der findes andre vanskeligheder med at lære at læse end dysleksi. Nogle børn har svært ved at forstå sproget, når de læser. De læser altså de enkelte ord godt (modsat dyslektikere), men har svært ved at forstå, hvad de læser.

Sådanne vanskeligheder kan bl.a. komme af generelle sproglige udviklingsvanskeligheder, af mangelfuld aktivering af forhåndsviden og forståelsesressourcer, eller de kan skyldes, at dansk er et andetsprog eller fremmedsprog.

Hvad er kendetegnende (symptomerne) ved dysleksi?

Dysleksi viser sig generelt ved, at barnet har meget svært ved at komme i gang med den første læsning og stavning – til trods for almindelig undervisning. Der er tre hovedkendetegn:

  • Store vanskeligheder med at læse ord, som barnet ikke har set før. I lang tid kan det være vanskeligt for barnet bare at sætte lyd på helt enkle kombinationer af bogstaver, do, kæ, un osv.
  • Mange læsefejl, som er i modstrid med, hvordan bogstaverne normalt udtales, fx “din” læst som ”dig”, “kommer” som ”kom”, “sort” som ”solen”. Der er ikke noget system i fejlene.
  • Meget langvarige vanskeligheder med at stave.

Almindelige sproglige problemer ved dysleksi

Det er almindeligt, at børn (og voksne) med dysleksi også har svært ved at opdele talte ord i enkeltlyde og fx at sige, hvad der bliver tilbage, fx ”mad” uden ”m”-lyden, eller at tælle antallet af lyde i korte hørte ord.

Det er også et almindeligt kendetegn ved dysleksi, at der skal flere gentagelser til for at lære lyden af nye ord og orddele. Man kan derfor høre børn og voksne med dysleksi tøve over for mindre kendte ord og udelade eller bytte om på nogle af lydene. Dysleksi er dermed ofte forbundet med vanskeligheder med at lære fremmedsprog som fx engelsk.

Fakta om dysleksi
  • Når man har dysleksi, har man nedsat evne til at forarbejde talt sprog, skriftligt sprog og lyde.
  • Dysleksi eksisterer i alle kulturer og sociale klasser og har ikke noget med intelligens at gøre.
  • Det er vigtigt at komme i gang med specialundervisning tidligt. Det er effektivt og en forudsætning for at klare sig godt på sigt.
