Australske forskere har fundet en lineær sammenhæng imellem lavt D-vitaminindhold i blodet og øget risiko for tidlig død. Spørgsmålet er, om denne risiko kan reduceres ved blot at øge D-vitaminniveauet.

Et af de næringsstoffer, som har landet flest hovedroller, er uden tvivl D-vitamin. Tidligere troede videnskaben, at det udelukkende var et vigtigt vitamin for tænder og knogler, men forskning fra senere år har vist, at stort set alle kroppens væv har brug for D-vitamin. Nu melder en gruppe forskere fra University of South Australia sig på banen med en noget opsigtsvækkende udmelding: Lavt indhold af D-vitamin i blodet øger risikoen for tidlig død, og jo lavere vitaminindhold desto højere risiko.

Lavt D-vitamin øger risiko for tidlig død

Forskningen er baseret på data fra 307.601 personer. Blodprøver fra disse viste, at det gennemsnitlige D-vitaminindhold i blodet var 45,2 nmol/L, hvilket er lavere end anbefalet. De laveste blodværdier lå under 25 nmol/L, og det er udtalt mangel. Over en periode på 14 år fulgte forskerne op ved at se, hvor mange dødsfald der var blandt deltagerne. Når de sammenholdt disse data med blodets indhold af D-vitamin, kunne de tegne et billede af sammenhængen. Den største risiko for tidlig død blev observeret hos dem med lavest indhold af vitaminet i blodet. Hos deltagere med et indhold på 25 nmol/L var risikoen for tidlig død 25 pct. højere end hos dem med et niveau på 50 nmol/L.

Vigtigt at forebygge

De australske forskere understreger, at der skal flere undersøgelser til, før der kan etableres egentlige sundhedsanbefalinger, men de siger samtidig, at forebyggelse er nøglen. Det nytter ikke at vente med at gøre noget ved sagen, indtil folk står i livstruende situationer. Det gælder for folk om at øge deres D-vitaminstatus til det niveau, læger og forskere betragter som optimalt.

D-vitaminpræparat med god optagelighed

Flere og flere tager i dag tilskud af D-vitamin, da det er den letteste måde at sikre et tilpas højt og ensartet D-vitaminniveau i blodet. Det gælder specielt folk på de nordlige breddegrader, hvor sollyset i vinterperioden er for svagt til, at vi kan danne D-vitamin i huden. Da D-vitamin er fedtopløseligt, er det vigtigt at tage præparatet sammen med fedtholdig føde eller vælge et præparat som D-Pearls, der indeholder D3-vitamin i koldpresset olivenolie i gelatinekapsler for at forbedre optageligheden.

Dokumenteret i en række forsøg

Præparatet har i flere offentliggjorte undersøgelser, heraf to norske, vist effektivt at kunne hæve blodindholdet af D-vitamin. Den ene så på muskelfunktion hos topatleter og blev udført af forskere fra Oslo Universitet. Den anden er udført af forskere fra Universitet i Bergen og undersøgte, hvordan D-vitamin påvirkede skoleelevers mentalpræstationer og sociale adfærd. Der er ligeledes lavet en stor britisk undersøgelse af D-Pearls og immunforsvar, hvor over 6.000 personer deltog.
