Hvis du er gravid og vil øge dit barns chancer for et liv med sunde og stærke tænder, skal du tage D-vitamin. En ny dansk undersøgelse, som netop er offentliggjort i det videnskabelige tidsskrift JAMA Pediatrics, viser nemlig, at der er en tydelig sammenhæng imellem et højt indtag af D-vitamin under graviditeten og reduceret risiko for fejl i emaljen hos børn. Og der er vel at mærke tale om emaljen på de blivende tænder, så den nye viden om D-vitamin har altså betydning for tændernes styrke resten af livet.
Vakte forbløffelse hos forskerne
Forskerne er selv overraskede og meget positive over resultaterne af deres undersøgelse, som viser, at højdoseret D-vitamintilskud næsten halverer risikoen for emaljefejl. I alt 623 gravide kvinder medvirkede i undersøgelsen, som oprindeligt havde til formål at undersøge, om D-vitamin havde en indvirkning på astma hos børn. Halvdelen af kvinderne fik 10 mikrogram D-vitamin dagligt, hvilket svarer til Sundhedsstyrelsens anbefalinger. Den anden halvdel fik en syv gange højere dosis – altså 70 mikrogram eller 2.800 enheder. Den høje dosis var forbundet med den markant lavere risiko for emaljefejl i de permanente tænder.
Svag emalje giver lettere huller
Fejl i tandemaljen opstår i forbindelse med, at tænderne dannes og har intet at gøre med, om en person har passet tilstrækkeligt godt på sine tænder eller ej. Emaljedefekterne bevirker, at emaljen er mindre solid og nedslides lettere end stærk og sund emalje. Man kan også se på områder med emaljefejl, at de har en brunlig eller gullig farve sammenlignet med den øvrige tand, og der opstår lettere huller i den defekte emalje.
Også vigtigt for hjernen
Der har været stigende fokus på og interesse for D-vitamin i de senere år. Foruden at være vigtigt for opbygning og vedligeholdelse af stærke knogler og tænder er D-vitamin nødvendigt for, at musklerne og immunforsvaret fungerer, som de skal. Og D-vitamin er ligeledes vigtigt for specialisering af de forskellige celler. Vi har D-vitamin-receptorer i stort set alle kroppens væv, selv i hjernen, hvilket viser, hvor vigtigt vitaminet er.
Norsk forsøg med dansk vitaminpræparat
I den forbindelse påviste norske forskere for et par år siden, at unge mennesker, som tog præparatet D-Pearls med 38 mikrogram D-vitamin i oliefyldte kapsler, lettere klarede forskellige mentalt krævende opgaver i forhold til dem, der fik virkningsløse snydekapsler. Desuden var der færre problemer med asocial adfærd blandt dem, der fik D-vitaminkapslerne. Undersøgelsen er offentliggjort i Scandinavian Journal of Psychology.
